If you’ve decided to go for marquee hire in Surrey as part of your wedding plans, the next thing you need to work out is how you’re going to decorate the space.
One of the nice things about marquees is that they’re pretty much a blank canvas, so with a bit of thought and planning you can make them into your perfect venue that reflects you and your partner.
Going Green
According to Brides magazine, mini trees and plants are growing in popularity as a wedding decor option – and there are some easy ways to use topiary in your decor for a stylish and beautiful reception.
Using small potted plants and flowers as table decorations is one of the easiest and most striking ways of including the greenery in your special day.
The publication notes that replacing flowers with these mini trees will “give your reception an airy, Tuscan-garden feel”. They also point out that while topiary is traditionally associated with ivy, boxwood and myrtle, there are many more options out there nowadays, including sculpted olive trees and rosemary bushes, which can be fragrant too.
The Wedding Entrance
You can use slightly larger potted trees either side of the entrance to the marquee to make it into a real feature, and if you pair this with a foliage archway you’ve got a really special doorway to walk through to get to the main reception area.
The Walk
For outdoor weddings, you could also consider placing topiary at the end of each row of seats, clearly marking the aisle. These will look great in your wedding photos too. Complement the back of chairs with small plants too, these can be similar to the topiary and will add a more organic feel to your day.
This could also be a great option if you’re getting married in a less-formal setting – something that more and more couples are choosing as this fits with their personalities, but also as a way of saving money.
Wedding Costs
According to the Sun, figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the average UK wedding costs £27,000, although this is predicted to increase in the coming years. It’s little wonder then that many couples are looking for ways to save a bit of cash on their nuptials. This is a tricky one as at the same time you do want to keep your guests happy and entertained.
This is another benefit of using potted topiary for your wedding decor – you can put it in your own garden after the big day. It could even serve as a lovely reminder of your ceremony and reception.
Saving money on your wedding could be a priority, and This Is Insider recently shared some details on how couples in the US are doing exactly that. It highlighted trends picked up in The Knot’s annual wedding report.
Among the things it noted were that more couples are shunning black-tie weddings in favour of less formal affairs. They’re looking for “meaningful individuality” in their venues as well, which means traditional options such as hotels, resorts and country clubs have all fallen out of favour.
Marquees are great for more informal weddings, as you can decorate them as you choose and because they can be set up anywhere that there’s enough room, you have plenty of options when it comes to your wedding venue too.
