With the most hotly anticipated event of the year just a few days away, there’s no time like the present to think about how you and your company are going to be celebrating the forthcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, taking place on May 19th. That’s this Saturday!
Even though it’s taking place on the weekend, you can still mark the occasion at work by putting on a party yourselves… which your staff members are sure to appreciate and certainly thank you for. But what could you do to really celebrate?
There are all sorts of Royal Wedding celebrations going on in various establishments all over the country, not to mention street parties galore, which you could easily join in with. But chances are you want to put something on yourself and really go all out… and there’s just about enough time to arrange something fun for all.
Sticking with a royal theme is probably a good idea, so why don’t you take a leaf out of Fortnum and Mason’s book and provide your employees with an afternoon tea package, with champagne, cakes, scones, sandwiches, breakfast tea and more. People can easily get involved with this by baking their own tasty treats to bring in – and you could introduce an element of competition with prizes for the best cakes.
While it’s a bit late in the day to organise a full-on street party to commemorate this special occasion, you could still do something along these lines if you think outside the box. Live music, themed decorations, lots of food and drink, raffle prizes, small marquees, tables and chairs… with a bit of effort you could easily throw a fun party at work that people will remember for weeks and months to come. Just make sure you screen the actual wedding – don’t forget why you’re throwing the party, after all!
In terms of food and drink, it might be fun to include a combination of the best of British and the best of American fare to honour the bride and groom.
What about cucumber sandwiches, lots of Pimm’s, cream teas, roast beef, Yorkshire puddings and fish and chips, coupled with the likes of apple pie, hamburgers, hot dogs, Cobb salad, cornbread, banana splits… you could have such fun devising a menu that celebrates the best of both cuisines.
