If you’ve got a big event coming up over the next ten days or so and have already sorted out the marquee at your Surrey venue, you might want to make sure you’ve made provisions for very hot weather… as we’re apparently in line for a serious heatwave, with temperatures set to soar to 30 degrees C.
The Met Office has said that the UK will see rising temperatures for the last week of June, which will help to benefit hay fever sufferers because grass pollen can be killed off quite successfully when it’s very hot outside.
That said, you might still want to ensure that you’ve provided some respite for those who do struggle with the pollen count at this time of year – whether that’s by ensuring there’s somewhere indoors they can escape to if needed or by having lots of tissues and antihistamines at the ready!
Meterologist Alex Deakin was quoted by the Daily Express as saying: “You enjoy blue skies at this time of year and soaring temperatures, well, you’ll probably enjoy the rest of June 2018. The forecast is really quite settled. Dry and sunny for most places and yes, temperatures are set to soar – especially next week.
“The hot air above Spain and Portugal will waft its way in the early part of next week more widely across the UK. It is looking more widespread, this very warm spell of weather into the early part of next week. Pretty much all parts of the UK are going to see temperatures well above average. Yes, some places next week are set to reach 30 degrees C.”
It will depend on the kind of event you’re throwing as to just how vulnerable your guests will be to extremes of heat, but you should always try to bear certain risks in mind at this time of year – namely dehydration and heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Make sure that your marquee is properly ventilated so it doesn’t get too hot inside and ensure that there is a constant supply of cold drinks on hand to keep your guests well hydrated. If you’re going to be serving alcohol, do remind people from time to time to perhaps drink water in between glasses of wine so they don’t dehydrate to dangerous levels.
As for the marquee itself, it’s a good idea to see if you can have removable or roll-up walls on the tent so you can let lots of fresh air into the space if needed. Your Surrey marquee hire company may also be able to sort out ceiling fans if it’s really baking outside – and see about having an outdoor shaded area set up with some furniture outside so people can enjoy the sun.
Keep a close eye on weather reports in the days leading up to your event so you can make any swift alterations to what you have planned in order to ensure your guests have nothing but a lovely time.
